What June Taught Us About Stress, Energy, and Engagement

Workplace Wellness Hour (June Recap) & Season 3 Finale

As Season 3 of Workplace Wellness Hour comes to a close, hosts Felipe Cofiño and Sumana Jeddy eased into summer with two conversations that capture what this series has done so well over the past three seasons. They address the quiet realities of modern work life and offer intentional, human-first strategies to support well-being.

The final two episodes explored the early signs of emotional strain, a new term in HR called quiet cracking and shared creative strategies for sustaining engagement through the often-disconnected summer months.

Are Your Employees Quiet Cracking? (live on 06.09.2025)

From Quiet Quitting to Quiet Cracking

You may remember the term quiet quitting from 2022 (Season 1, Episode 1). Before that happens, there’s something even more subtle: “quiet cracking”. It is the invisible strain employees carry before they disengage completely. While the label may sound new, the concept is well documented.

It’s the growing pressure of workload, uncertainty, and stress that accumulates silently until “one more thing” becomes the breaking point. Often, it’s the high performers who are cracking first.

#Felipes5: What to Observe and Address
  1. Listening: 40% of employees experiencing this say their managers don’t truly listen. They need presence and empathy more than any solution.
  2. Intentional Learning: Employees without recent training are 140% more likely to feel insecure. Learning opportunities, even self-paced ones, can reduce doubt and help people grow.
  3. Human Connection: 70% of people don’t feel their manager cheers them on. Simple gestures such as checking in, noticing changes, and showing care can build trust and belonging.

To help structure this kind of everyday support, leaders and coworkers can use the F.I.T.T. Framework for workplace connections, previously shared by Jeddy Wellness. Designed as a “connection prescription,” F.I.T.T. stands for Frequency, Intensity, Time, and Type. It’s a simple but powerful guide to building intentional social support at work.

Capacity, Capability, and Recovery

One key idea: capacity vs. capability. Just because someone can do more doesn’t mean they should. Consider energy, not just effort. Factor in personal stress, unclear roles, and hidden emotional strain.

As we shift seasons and workloads, it’s not just about taking breaks but about taking the right kind of breaks. That’s where the DRAMMA Model comes in: a science-backed framework that outlines six recovery experiences proven to support emotional well-being and resilience.

DRAMMA = Detachment, Relaxation, Autonomy, Mastery, Meaning, and Affiliation

Each element offers a different kind of restorative power.  If you do not build recovery into your routine, your need for recovery (NFR) increases. That means you’ll require more time later to recharge your batteries and recover from accumulated stress.

Sumana noted that when her creativity begins to dip, it’s a signal something deeper is off. What is your cue? What type of recovery in the DRAMMA Model could help most?

Summer Distractions & Employee Engagement (06.23.2025)

The last episode of the season explored the ups and downs of summer: longer days, shifting workloads, and personal priorities. These changes can make work feel distant.

Rather than letting disengagement creep in, the WWH team offered five creative strategies to support and energize teams during the summer stretch.

#Felipes5: Summer Engagement Strategies
  1. Summer-Themed Fun & Connection:
Whether it’s an ice cream party in the office or a gift card for remote workers, fun builds connection.
  2. Learning & Development with a Twist:
Try outdoor learning, raffles, or peer-led sessions. And don’t just assign—join them.
  3. Wellness & Well-Being Boosters:
Host step challenges, book clubs, or walking meetings

Mindful-Mind Wandering

A powerful wellness practice shared by Jeddy Wellness is Mindful Mind-Wandering.

We often think of mind-wandering as daydreaming or zoning out but when done with intention, it becomes a form of mindfulness and a creative asset. Research shows that deliberate mind-wandering can help the brain:

  • Forge new connections

  • Integrate unrelated ideas

  • Revisit challenges from fresh angles
A Note on Integrity & Follow-Through

Summer can be busy for some and quiet for others. It’s also an opportunity to check in with your team to see if the ideas have the impact they are designed for.

Trust is built in the quiet follow-through: honoring your ideas, showing care for those feeling the weight, and looking out for people in the ways that matter most.

Jason Roeder and Sumana Jeddy explored the science behind trust, highlighting five key elements that can guide leaders through the summer months.

Looking Ahead

As the Workplace Wellness Hour team signs off for the summer, they’re embracing the very practices they’ve explored all season, slowing down to reflect, reset, and reconnect.

Season 4 will return in the fall with fresh conversations and a continued commitment to lead and live well in today’s evolving (and often demanding) landscape.

Until then, consider this your invitation to pause and focus on the moments that recharge you.
