Six Research-Backed Approaches for Building Healthier Workplaces

Last six months

Workplace wellbeing is often discussed as a goal, but creating healthier workplaces requires more than good intentions. It requires understanding the evidence behind what helps people sustain wellbeing, engagement, and performance.

I have always believed research should not stay in academic conversations. It should be translated into practical strategies that leaders, teams, and organizations can apply in everyday work.

Throughout the first half of 2026, our monthly blogs explored six workplace wellbeing conversations through the lens of research-backed frameworks. Each framework offered a different perspective on how we can better support employees, strengthen leadership practices, and create healthier work environments.

1. R2C2 Feedback

Feedback is more than a performance process. R2C2 helps leaders create reflective conversations that build trust, learning, and growth.

2. Mentally Healthy Workplaces

Mental health at work requires intentional action. We explored practical strategies organizations can use to strengthen workplace culture and support employee wellbeing.

3. Leading Through Burnout & R2C2

In complex and changing environments, leaders need tools to create clarity, connection, and psychological safety. We explored VUCA, R2C2, and how leaders can influence without adding stress.

4. Job Demands-Control

We explored how job demands, control, and burnout experiences influence wellbeing, and why restoring autonomy and agency matters. We provided three strategies to proactively regain control at work.

5. Employee Engagement

Leadership shapes the conditions where engagement can thrive by influencing clarity, support, resources, and connection (such as FITT).

6. Four Types of Recognition

Recognition is more than incentives. Employees need to feel valued through meaningful acknowledgment of their contributions, efforts, growth, and impact. Explore the four types of recognition employees need beyond rewards.

Review and Closing

Together, these six research-backed approaches tell a larger story about workplace wellbeing:

Feedback → Mental Health → Burnout → Control → Engagement → Recognition

Each conversation builds on the last, reminding us that healthier workplaces are not created through one initiative.

These conversations did not stop with our blogs. They continued through our Jeddy Wellness Ambassador community, who helped bring these ideas to life through their own reflections, experiences, and workplace wellbeing perspective

A special thank you to our ambassadors for extending these conversations:

  • Feedback & R2C2 –  Renata’s reflection on the importance of meaningful feedback, and Aashita’s perspective on applying R2C2 as a university student.
  • Mental Health in the Workplace – Chidera and Claudia’s thoughtful contributions on creating mentally healthy workplaces and supporting employee wellbeing.
  • Burnout & Recovery – Kristín and Mary’s reflections on burnout and the importance of protecting employee wellbeing. Jackson extended the conversation around leading through burnout and influencing without stress.
  • Autonomy & Control – Hannah’s reflection on the importance of autonomy in the employee experience, as well as her contribution as a co-facilitator for her first Jeddy Wellness session. Her involvement represents the evolution of our ambassador community from sharing insights to actively helping facilitate workplace wellbeing conversations.
  • Employee Engagement – Furkhan and Marsha’s perspectives on the conditions that shape meaningful engagement at work.
  • Recognition – Chidera and Claudia’s reflections on employee recognition and the importance of making people feel valued.

Thank you as well to Irenosen and Rachel for their continued support, advocacy, and commitment to advancing workplace wellbeing conversations.

As we move into the second half of 2026, we look forward to continuing these conversations through new workplace wellbeing insights, including our September, October, and November blogs, as well as Season 5 of Workplace Wellness Hour with my co-host Felipe Cofiño.

The next chapter of workplace wellbeing is not just about understanding the research, it is about translating research into action.
